Head Master
Since joining Harrow Chongqing, I have been afforded the chance to take on a new leadership role, shaping and developing our Lower School IPP Program and EAL Department. Collaborating with such knowledgeable and experienced colleagues has helped me quickly acclimate to this position, as I established a rigorous system encompassing assessments, in-class support, and intervention lessons—all designed to assist our young learners in navigating the bilingual demands of the curriculum. My primary role as a class teacher provides me with ample non-contact time to focus on my professional growth in this capacity, as well as affording me the opportunity to build a respected football ECA program, combining my love of sports with the holistic education all Harrow students receive. Buoyed by the leadership team’s ambitious yet supportive culture, I have felt valued, trusted, and supported throughout this professional journey, while also gaining recognition for the impact I’ve made. However, the most profound change has been in my own self-confidence, as well as my growing drive to continue advancing my career here at Harrow Chongqing.
Lower School Class Teacher and EAL Specialist
I joined Harrow as a bilingual classroom practitioner and lab technician, where I was responsible for establishing the school’s science laboratory from the ground up. This experience allowed me to gain a deep understanding of both the practical and pedagogical aspects of science teaching. After my first year, I began training under the UK teaching standards and, within six months, I started teaching lessons independently. Throughout this process, the school and my line manager offered tremendous support and guidance, helping me transition smoothly from a technical and support role into a full teaching position.
Harrow has also provided excellent opportunities for professional development, including AQA examiner training and the iPGCSE course, which have greatly enhanced my understanding of international curricula and assessment standards. Today, I am proud to be a Bilingual Chemistry teacher for iGCSE and A-level students, continuing to grow as an educator while contributing to our students’ academic success.
US Bilingual Chemistry Teacher
Working at Harrow Chongqing has provided me with outstanding opportunities for professional growth. I initially joined the team as a Lower School class teacher and quickly discovered a culture that truly values initiative, collaboration, and professional development. Soon after, I was offered the opportunity to become Head of House, a role that has allowed me to develop my leadership skills, strengthen relationships across the school community, and contribute to the wider pastoral life of the school.
This year, I have further expanded my responsibilities by taking on the role of English Lead for the Lower School. This position has enabled me to lead curriculum development, support colleagues, and drive forward initiatives that promote a love of reading and writing across our classrooms.
What I appreciate most about Harrow Chongqing is the school’s unwavering support for my ongoing development. I am currently completing the NPQLT, an experience that is enriching both my leadership practice and my ability to support high-quality teaching and learning. Each new challenge here has strengthened my confidence, deepened my expertise, and inspired me to continue striving for excellence.
Lower School Class Teacher
My journey at the school began with the dual role of Bilingual Classroom Practitioner and Grade 5 form tutor. This unique position allowed me to immediately connect with students on multiple levels: I provided essential language support to various classes, witnessing firsthand how English proficiency could be a barrier to learning in different subjects. At the meantime, as a form tutor, I quickly built strong relationships with my fifth graders, guiding and growing alongside them. This deeply rewarding experience inspired me to be part of a broader impact, leading me to apply for the role of Upper School Pastoral Coordinator. I was driven by the desire to positively influence more students’ school lives. Now in this position, I am actively collaborating with all form teachers to focus on the well-being and progress of every upper school student.
EAL Bilingual Classroom Practitioner and US Pastoral Coordinator
Being a founding member of staff has been an incredibly rewarding journey for me, both professionally and personally. I started as a Bilingual PE Classroom Practitioner with limited experience, and over the years, I have grown into my current role as a Bilingual PE Teacher and House Coordinator. I’ve not only developed my teaching practice but also built confidence and leadership through every opportunity the school has offered.
I truly feel that I have grown alongside the school. From the very beginning, I received tremendous support, from my line manager, from colleagues, and from the senior leadership team, who have always guided and encouraged me at each stage of my development. Their trust and mentorship have allowed me to explore new responsibilities, take on challenges, and keep improving.
The chance to take the NPQ course and enroll in the iPGCE has been particularly meaningful. These experiences have deepened my understanding of both teaching and leadership and helped me reflect on how I can make a greater impact in my classroom, in the House system, and across the wider school community.
Looking back, I feel proud of how far I’ve come, and grateful for the opportunities that have shaped me into the educator I am today.
