Leadership and Service

Purpose

The purpose of our Leadership & Service Programme at Harrow Chongqing, is to encourage our students to broaden their horizons, develop a breadth of practical, interpersonal and transferrable skills and thereby enrich their curriculum. In such a way, our aim is to help them acquire and hone the leadership attributes required to traverse our ever-changing and complex world with confidence and resilience. The Leadership and Service Curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for students to gain a breadth of experiences, skills and attributes which can be monitored and celebrated.

Leadership & Service at Harrow Chongqing includes: 

  • Leadership & Service during after school, co-curricular activities
  • Expeditions and Trips
  • Community and Service projects
  • The International (Duke of Edinburgh’s) Award
  • Academic Enrichment and the Super-Curriculum
  • House Competitions and events
  • Student Leadership roles (the Student Council and House Leaders)

The Leadership & Service Curriculum provides a means to encourage participation and traces this participation according to the six leadership attributes (iRules) of all Harrow Schools.

How to achieve

Early Years

Bright Sparks

Students collect iRules stickers and record these on their Bright Sparks record sheet. Once one sticker is completed for each of the six separate iRules, students will receive a certificate of completion.

Pre-Prep

1 Spark/ 2 Spark/ 3 Spark

Students must complete at least one activity per iRule/leadership attribute box (all six attributes) for 1 Spark, two activities per box for 2 Sparks, and 3 activities per box for 3 Sparks. Students have their own record sheet to track their progress.

Prep

1 Star, 2 Star, 3 Star

Students must complete at least one activity per Leadership attribute box (all six attributes) for 1 Star, two activities per box for 2 Stars, and 3 activities per box for 3 Stars. Students have their own record sheet to track their progress and must also complete one reflection sheet per attribute/per level. 3 Star awards require an additional leadership responsibility.

Secondary

Pass, Merit and Distinction

Students must complete at least two activities per Leadership attribute box (all six attributes – 1 from each column) for Pass, two activities per box for 2 Merit (including a leadership role/ International Award), and three activities per box for Distinction (and a leadership role). Students have their own record sheet to track their progress and must also complete reflection sheets for each attribute/per level.

1 Spark, 2 Spark and 3 Spark, as well as 1 Star, 2 Star and 3 Star and Pass, Merit and Distinction, badges are also awarded, to be worn on the Harrow school tie. For completion of the phase award, a special tie will also be awarded (3 Spark, 3 Star, Distinction).
